6 Day Esperance, Margaret River & Albany Adventure – Hostel Accommodated
Day 1 – Perth to Dunsborough
Our adventure begins as we travel south from Perth with our first stop at the popular tourist town of Busselton, where it’s hard to miss the 19th-century Jetty stretching 1.8km into Geographe Bay. Here we’ll have a coffee on the waterfront, stroll along the white sandy beach and chat about what exciting things are to come.
A little way down the road we’ll stop at the breathtaking Meelup Beach where we’ll have some lunch and quick swim. Saying goodbye to paradise (don’t worry there will be plenty more) it’s time tantalise those taste buds as we spend the whole afternoon tasting our way around the Margaret River region. We’ll visit boutique wineries, breweries, a chocolate factory and a cheese factory, sampling as we go.
We’ll be having dinner and spending the night in popular tourist hotspot Dunsborough, loved for its sparkling calm clear water, white sandy beaches and great evening vibes. Drive time today is about 3.5 hours with lots of stops along the way and lunch and dinner are included. L / D
Day 2 – Dunsborough to Walpole
This morning you’ll meet Wardandi custodian Josh, who will introduce you to the world’s oldest living culture with his authentic and personal interpretation. Go deep down into the Ngilgi Cave for a memorable didgeridoo cave experience, taste native foods, discover bush medicine and experience traditional fire lighting on this unique indigenous cultural experience.
Swing by the tiny town of Yallingup to check out some of the world’s best waves before arriving into the township of Margaret River, nestled between vineyards and towering Karri forests. Premium wine & produce, surfing, art and a love for nature combine to be the soul of this town and you’ll have some free time here to explore the eclectic mix of shops and galleries.
We’ll stop at Hamlin Bay before making our way to the 50 metre Diamond Tree, a native karri tree once used as a fire lookout and only 1 of 3 wooden top towers in the world. If you are feeling brave you can climb the tree before making our way into the pristine wilderness region of Walpole, home of the Valley of the Giants. This is where we’ll be having dinner and spending the night. There about 4 hours of drive time today. B / L / D
Day 3 – Walpole to Albany
This morning you’ll discover the stunning beauty of the Valley of the Giants, a giant forest of towering Red Tingle trees, many of which are over 400 years old. We’ll spent some time here doing the Ancient Empire walk and treetop canopy walk.
From the forest to the ocean as next its onto William Bay National Park where you will amazed by the paradise that is Greens Pool. A magical beach completely sheltered it’s the perfect place to have a swim before heading onto, yet another laid back and beautiful township of Denmark for lunch.
After lunch we’ll cruise along a glorious stretch of coastline to Albany, seeing how years of natural erosion have crafted incredible rock sculptures and granite bluffs – the Natural Bridge and The Gap are two of our favourites. We’ll have some time have a look around the historical township before dinner. We’ll overnight in Albany after an easy day of driving of around 2 hours. B / L / D
Day 4 – Albany to Esperance
A short drive from Albany brings us to the oldest mountain range in the world, the unique Porongurup’s which rise from the landscape like an island. We’ll be setting out on a two-hour hike through some spectacular forests to Castle Rock. It’s a bit of a climb but worth every bit of effort as you are rewarded with breathtaking views over the region.
Then get ready for some of Australia’s most spectacular scenery with this part of WA having no less than 9 National Parks and some of the best beaches in the world. We’ll be spending some time at Twilight Beach before continuing onto Esperance. Here you’ll have some free time to explore the township before dinner. We’ll be staying in our Esperance accommodation for two nights and today drive around 5 hours. B / L / D
Day 5 – Cape le Grand National Park
Cape Le Grand is one of Western Australia’s best known and most spectacular National Parks and is just a one-hour drive from Esperance. Pristine and perfect are two words that reflect its absolute beauty. The ocean here is practically transparent, the local eastern grey ‘roos are regularly sunbaking on the beach and the sand at Lucky Bay has twice been judged Australia’s whitest. So beautiful is this park we will be spending the whole day here exploring, swimming, bushwalking and you’ll also have some free time to do whatever you please. Today we’ll also embark on one of the best hikes of the tour up Frenchman’s Peak.
We’ll have lunch here and watch a spectacular sunset with a cold beer before heading back to Esperance for dinner and our last together. B / L / D
Day 6 – Esperance to Perth
On the last day of the tour we have a lot of distance to cover so its up early and on our way. Stopping for lunch at an outback town we’ll continue on our way to the weird and wonderful Wave Rock. After exploring the area we’ll head to the historic township of York, WA’s oldest inland town. We’ll also see the Rabbit Proof Fence which was built between 1901 and 1907 to keep rabbits and other agricultural pests, from the east, out of Western Australia.
As our amazing 6-day adventure tour comes to an end we’ll roll into Perth around 6.30pm after travelling around 9 hours with stops along the way. Please make sure you have booked your Perth accommodation prior to departure. You’ll get your breakfast and lunch and although there are no formal activities planned it is usual for the group to get together and reflect on the journey together over a few drinks and a meal (at own expense) at Grand Lane Fish House in Perth City Centre.
