Description
Who wouldn’t enjoy a day tour to Wave Rock? Our first stop is for morning tea (own expense) at York in the Avon Valley! York is one of Western Australia’s most picturesque towns, where streets are lined with charming architecture. The historic town was the first inland European settlement in Western Australia, founded in 1831. Continuing our drive inland, have your heart warmed at a Dog Cemetery. Here you can read owners loving and sometimes elaborate tributes to the memories of their faithful four legged companions.
We then make our way to the highlight of todays journey, Hyden. Home to many attractions such as Wave Rock, Gnamma Holes, Mulka’s Cave and Hippo’s Yawn. Hippo’s Yawn is an aptly named rock formation resembling a hippopotamus yawning.
Be decadent at a buffet lunch at the wild flower shop, all the while anticipating visiting the surf like spectacle of Wave Rock. Formed over 2,700 million years ago and home to the ancient Gnamma Holes. You can choose to visit Wave Rock Wildlife Park to enjoy the company of kangaroos, emus, wallabies, wombats, koalas, lizards and a wide range of birds. Alternatively, view a unique Antique Lace Collection dating back to the 1600’s. After all that excitement, you’ll also get the chance to learn about the aboriginal legend of Mulka where his handprints can still be seen within the Cave.
Returning to Perth via a different route, you will enjoy the quaint country town of Babakin for afternoon tea prepared by the Country Women’s Association (own expense). In season (September to November) we allow time for wild flower stops, viewing varieties including the vibrant orange flowering Christmas Tree, Kangaroo Paw, Banksia, Wattle and Everlastings. The profusion of wild flowers depends on weather and other conditions, therefore we cannot guarantee sightings.
Please note: this itinerary can also be conducted as a private tour solely for your group
