Description

Day 1: Sydney to Crescent Head

Set the tone for this fair dinkum (authentic) Aussie adventure by crossing Sydney’s iconic Harbour Bridge as we venture toward the surfing haven of Crescent Head.  After a tasty BBQ lunch, we’ll be hitting the water with a private surf lesson on one of the best beaches in the world. Whether you’re just starting out or have surfed before, here’s your chance to become a bona fide surf master. (LD)

Day 2: Crescent Head to Byron Bay

Our road trip continues with a traditional BBQ lunch and a cruise past the Big Banana icon before pulling into Byron Bay – where you can burn incense, sip chai and practice yoga all in one day. (B)

Day 3: Byron Bay

Anti-McDonald’s and anti-anything mass produced (but pro juice bars, beer gardens and beards), Byron Bay is so laid back it’s a wonder it hasn’t fallen over.  On your free day here, hit the shops, test out those newly acquired surfing skills, paddle a sea kayak, skydive, or watch whales breach from the Lighthouse in winter. Pretty sweet, huh? (B)
Optional activities:
-Dolphin kayaking
-Skydiving
-Surf lesson

Day 4: Byron Bay to Brisbane

Leave the blissful buzz of Byron Bay behind as we head for Brisbane – but first, we tackle Surfers Paradise & the Gold Coast.  Get ready to soak up the sun in this slice of paradise. (B)
Included today – Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast & Walking tour of Brisbane

Day 5: Brisbane to Fraser Island

Today we’ll discover Noosa and the breathtaking Glasshouse Mountains, then board the ferry bound for Fraser Island.  UNESCO World Heritage listed and the world’s largest sand island, this place is pretty special.  Fraser, we’re ready for ya!

We ask that you have packed a small overnight bag to take to Fraser Island with you as luggage space is limited. Pack items like swimmers, beach towel, chargers, hat, sunscreen, camera, jacket, toiletries, sandals/flip flops and casual clothes for 2 days. (BD)

Day 6: Fraser Island

Fraser is literally one huge pile of sand – as if someone dropped the Sahara Desert into the Pacific Ocean and scattered it with dingoes and rainforests. Four-wheel-drive along the beach highway to mingle with the Pinnacles Coloured Sands (considered a place of good luck for the Indigenous Butchulla women), Eli Creek and the Maheno Shipwreck before testing out your stand up paddling skills on the crystal clear waters of Lake McKenzie. (BL)

Optional activities:
-Scenic flights from the beach

Day 7: Fraser Island to Myella Farm

Along the way today, we’ll stop off at the iconic Bundaberg Rum distillery for a tour and tasting sesh (session) in the heart of sugar cane country.  This afternoon enjoy an authentic outback experience at a 2,500-acre cattle station.  Embrace your inner Jillaroo or Jackaroo and prepare yourself for an adventure-packed afternoon of optional horse riding and cow milking or go walkabout on a real Aussie farm to find that right spot for the perfect outback sunset.  Enjoy a hearty home cooked farm style dinner before you take to whip cracking and lassoing.  (BD)
Optional activities:
-Horse riding

Day 8: Myella Farm

Enjoy a free day exploring a real, working Australian Farm.  Take to life on the land like a horse to oats with an adventure-packed morning of horse riding and motor biking. Dirty your boots, milk your first cow, or go walkabout on a real Aussie farm.

Day 9: Myella Farm to Airlie Beach

Feeling like you need more air in your hair?  Leave the bus and board your own private yacht for our overnight (2 day, 1 night) sailing trip around the beautiful Whitsunday Islands.  Normally a play thing for the rich and famous, today the yacht is all yours to learn the ropes while sailing in paradise…cue feasts, swim stops and plenty of snorkelling.  (BD)
Please note: We ask that you have packed a small overnight bag to take onboard with you as space on the overnight sailing is limited.  Pack items like swimmers, beach towel, chargers, hat, sunscreen, camera, jacket, toiletries, sandals/flip flops and casual clothes for 2 days.
Please note: The twin / double / or single upgrade is not applicable to the Overnight Sailing in the Whitsunday Islands.

Day 10: Whitsunday Islands

Today, we’ll set sail for sandy beaches, snorkel over coral reefs and soak up the sun.  Keep those sunglasses on as the blinding white sands of Whitehaven stretch before you like a 7km sea of diamonds, and swim with the resident reef fish at a nearby snorkel site.  Back on board, practise your seafaring skills by helping to set the sails or steer at the helm. Make the most of this paradise before we head back to shore tonight. (BL)

Day 11: Airlie Beach to Magnetic Island

Today we’re off to Magnetic Island, just a short ferry ride over from the mainland. Relax, recharge and take it easy in a hammock of your choice or get involved in walks to secluded beaches and maybe even feed some of the local animals. (BD)

Day 12: Magnetic Island to Cairns

Get stuck into a private tour of the local wildlife park, where you can kiss a baby crocodile, smooch a blue tongue lizard and even spot a koala.  Back on the Bruce Highway, colourful Cairns in the far north tropic region is our next destination.  We’ll pass palm tree-lined streets this afternoon as we make our way into Cairns, nestled between the Coral Sea and the Great Dividing Range. After checking into our centrally located hotel, head out to grab some dinner – you’re spoilt for dining choices here.  After dinner the revelry is up to you – check out the famous Night Markets or soak up the local nightlife at one of the many bars and clubs. (B)

Day 13: Cairns

You have two days to crack Cairns!  Why not start with an optional Great Barrier Reef trip?  It’s like a kid’s gone crazy with their paint set down there.  Keep your eyes peeled for some awesome animals; we’re talking turtles, reef sharks, rays and more. (B)
Please note: Pre-book your Great Barrier Reef day-trip at the time of booking to secure your spot.

Day 14: Cairns

After breakfast, say goodbye to your trip buddies.  But with white water rafting, bungy jumping and skydiving on offer in Cairns, we won’t blame you for sticking around. (B)

B = Breakfast / L = Lunch / D =  Dinner

Personal Safety

One of the best parts of travelling is experiencing the nightlife and entertainment each city has to offer. However, amidst the fun and excitement, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and personal safety as well. Before you hit the road with us, it’s important to be aware of the following:

When you’re on a night out, remember to avoid walking alone, particularly through deserted areas like beaches and back streets. Always stick together, take a taxi where possible, and keep a note of your accommodation details so you can find your way back to your fellow Topdeckers if you become separated.

In some countries, alcoholic measures can be considerably larger than what you may be used to. Try to keep track of what you’re drinking, and if you see one of your trip mates looking a little worse for wear, take them back to your accommodation. Be cautious when accepting drinks from strangers and never leave your drink unattended.

It’s also important to be aware that what you might consider harmless flirting may be interpreted differently in some countries. Be yourself and have fun, but don’t be naïve, and be mindful of the signals you are sending out so that you don’t find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.
